De wintersport voor 2019 boeken: vijf toffe bestemmingen

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

1. Skicircus in Oostenrijk

2. Turracher Höhe in Oostenrijk

3. Serre Chevalier in Frankrijk

4. Sauze d’Oulx in Italië

5. Trysil in Noorwegen

A 19th Century Stable Hidden in the Heart of Midtown Manhattan

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Some time ago, I was walking down West 55th Street in midtown when I happened to notice a peculiar building near Seventh Avenue…

01

This three-story structure, nestled in between the towering brick pre-war apartments that line the block.

02

There was almost an abandoned feel to it, with flaking paint giving way to the brick underneath…

03

On the second floor, a row of arched windows with panes blacked out by soot and grime:

03a

On the third floor, the remains of this very strange door/hatch…

04

A closer look. Note the plant life growing from the building:

04a

And beside it, this unusual skylight:

05

Finally, if you look really closely, you’ll even find a few miniature dragons set into the facade:

dragons

Yet from the ground floor, it seems almost like nothing more than a loading dock:

06

As it turns out, this is the last remaining stable from a time when West 55th Street would have been lined with private carriage houses, built by Fifth Avenue’s wealthiest residents to serve their transportation needs.

08

The stable at 154 West 55th Street was built in 1888 by Charles T. Barney, a wealthy banker who would later become president of the Knickerbocker Trust Company. Barney already had several stables across the street, and had had success in renting out the upper floors as studio space for artists. Known as The Holbein Studios, they were at times home to such artists as John Singer Sargent, impressionist painter Childe Hassam, and portrait artist Cecilia Beaux.

ad

The stable at 154 West 55th Street was the last to be built, and the only one designed specifically with artists in mind. The second floor apartment was reserved for the coachman, while the skylit third floor was divided into four studios.

03

As time passed, the other stables were torn down to make way for apartment buildings. Miraculously though, 154 West 55th Street managed to survive into the late-1920s, when it was converted into a movie theater. By the 1970s, it was operating as the 55th Street Playhouse, showing art house movies and retrospectives. Andy Warhol in particular had numerous runs here over the years.

Then, in the late 1980s, the stable-turned-studio-turned-movie-theater found itself in danger of demolition to accommodate a truck entrance for the new hotel going up on West 54th Street. Though it had been suggested as a candidate for landmark protection, it had never received the designation (and still hasn’t).

07

Ultimately, the developers decided to just gut the first floor for use as a truck entrance, leaving the rest intact. As I mentioned, these pictures were taken some time ago; the property has since been given a fresh coat of paint and looks in somewhat better shape.

02

But I’m still wondering: what the heck is this strange arched doorway on the third floor…

04a

…and what’s in those two upper floors today?

Como ir de Cusco para Puno?

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Chef Julien Royer Signs Agreement with Sarment’s Keyyes Luxury Digital Platform

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Julien Royer, a two-starred Michelin chef and owner of one of world’s top fine dining restaurants, Odette, is now working together with Keyyes’ Gourmet marketplace to offer its community a chance to purchase the exact ingredients that he uses in his restaurant’s kitchen.

Odette is Chef Royer’s first personal project, which earned two Michelin stars within nine months of its opening in 2015. He previously headlined award-winning restaurants like Jaan in Singapore and worked with Michel Bras in France as well as Antonin Bonnet in London.

Earlier this year, Odette was awarded number 28 in the World’s 50 Best Restaurants listing, becoming one of the most highly-regarded tables in the world. It also won 5th spot in this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants —a stunning progression following its entry the year before as number 9, making Chef Royer the highest new entry since the list was started in 2013.

As a result of this partnership, users will now be able to purchase Chef Royer’s personal selections and ingredients, including Kaviari Kristal Caviar labelled specially for Odette and the Eva Aguilera olive oil that he uses in his dishes, among many small-batched artisanal products.

This is a first-of-its-kind collaboration between a top chef and a luxury marketplace to allow consumers a chance to stock their kitchen larders direct from the shopping basket of a highly-rated professional chef.

Said Chef Royer: “I am very excited to be part of Keyyes’ digital ecosystem. It allows me to do something never done before in the industry. Instead of interacting with guests only when they come to the restaurant, I am now connected to a much broader audience and I can become an integral part of their daily lives. I spend a lot of time researching and curating the finest products for Odette’s cuisine and this joint effort with Keyyes allows consumers to have all of that knowledge and quality in their own kitchen at home.”

Keyyes just unveiled the Gourmet category of its marketplace during the third quarter of 2018 with Chef Julien Royer as one of its major brand ambassadors to curate its products.

Keyyes was launched during the second quarter of 2018 as the first digital platform to offer its high-net-worth users an aggregated application that covers three elements: premium content, top-drawer products and high-level personal services.

In addition to Gourmet, other available categories include Dining, Home, Wine, Spirits, Sake, Art, Automotive, Wellness and By-appointment only Boutiques. With luxury names such as Burberry, Ferragamo, Harlan Estate, Boucheron, Ferrari and Lamborghini. Other categories such as Fashion, Hotels and more will soon follow. Keyyes platform currently covers Asian consumer markets in Singapore, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Macau, Bangkok and Bali.

CEO Quentin Chiarugi explained: “As Keyyes continues to migrate Sarment’s existing luxury network online, we will continue to feature high-profile brand ambassadors across our lifestyle categories. We are honoured to collaborate with Chef Royer. He is extremely talented and represents the new generation of global artists we want to work with.”

About Sarment

Sarment was established in 2012 providing “art de la table” products and services to both private individuals and enterprises active in the luxury community. It evolved into a broader lifestyle service provider offering premium experiences to its expanding base of affluent clients, establishing its position as a trusted authority in all things luxury. Sarment is now one of Asia’s major luxury service providers with hundreds of global partners spanning a growing network of luxury businesses.

Buy Julien Royer’s specially curated products and book a coveted table at Odette on Keyyes available at the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.

HVS Report - Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Countrywide Hotel Performance Indicators

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

GCC countries have supported and grown inbound tourism in the last 15-20 years. HVS remains confident that accommodated room night demand will grow despite the aggressive development pipeline.

HVS

GCC countries have supported and grown inbound tourism in the last 15-20 years. The GCC region continues to drive growth and investment opportunities and HVS remain confident that accommodated room night demand will grow despite the aggressive development pipeline.

GCC Countrywide Occupancy

Historic (1998-2017) and Forecast – 5 Year Average

5 Year Average GCC Countrywide Occupancy with HVS Forecast

Source: HVS Research

A number of demand generators will induce additional room nights in each of the GCC countries over the next 5 and 10 years. Specifically, we forecast occupancy in Qatar to average 66% on account of the ongoing developments and the 2022 World Cup. Major projects and government initiatives in KSA will allow the country to achieve 66% countrywide occupancy in the next couple of years. UAE specifically continues to introduce new projects and Expo 2020 will support growth in occupancy to average of 75% for the next five years. Bahrain, Oman and Kuwait will also register a rise in demand attributed to the government tourism initiatives and overall policy reforms to support international investments and tourism growth.

Historic (1998-2017) and Forecast – 10 Year Average

10 Year Average GCC Countrywide Occupancy with HVS Forecast

Source: HVS Research

Marketwide Occupancy can be misleading when not considered in the context of supply and demand dynamics. All GCC countries have registered double digit growth in accommodated roomnight demand in the last 20 years, further illustrating the growth of the tourism sector in the region.

Historical occupancy in the GCC countries in the last 10 and 20 years averaged approximately 62% and 64% respectively, UAE consistently outperforming the GCC average hotel occupancy. HVS forecast hotel occupancy over the next 10 years: KSA is expected to register the largest growth in occupancy levels (8pp), followed by Oman and Bahrain (5pp). Despite the increase in visitation to the UAE, the strong supply pipeline will result in constrained occupancy of 75%.

GCC Countrywide Average Daily Rate

Historic (1998-2017) and Forecast – 5 Year Average

5 Year Average GCC Countrywide Average Daily Rate USD - HVS Forecast

Source: HVS Research

A review of yearly marketwide average rates across GCC countries since 1998 indicate a peak in the years 2006 to 2008, after which average rates have started to normalise and in certain cities decline.

The entrance of additional hotel rooms to the GCC market will continue to impact the achievable average daily rate, despite the potential demand induced by new developments and government initiatives. HVS forecast countrywide ADR in UAE, Oman and Qatar to remain stagnant.

KSA is likely to benefit from the recent changes in tourism government policies; average rates across KSA is forecasted to grow to USD200.

Bahrain and Kuwait will both register further drops in market wide average rate, as a result of increased competition and the phase out of the hotel rate cartel agreement effectuated by the hotel owners’ association.

Historic (1998-2017) and Forecast – 10 Year Average

10 Year Average GCC Countrywide Average Daily Rate USD - HVS Forecast

Source: HVS Research

Historical average daily rates in the GCC countries in the last 10 years averaged approximately USD197, an increase of 32% over the period 1998-2007, with Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar overpenetrating the GCC market wide average rate.

HVS forecast KSA to achieve an ADR of USD225 over the next ten years while all other GCC countries are likely to experience a stagnation or decline in average daily rates as a result of aggressive development pipeline and increased competition.

GCC Countrywide Revenue per Available Room

Historic (1998-2017) and Forecast – 5- and 10-Year Average

GCC Countrywide Revenue per Available Room USD - HVS Forecast

Source: HVS Research

Marketwide Revenue per Available room in the GCC dropped by 15% in the recent five years, with the exception of KSA which has remained resilient at USD116. The declining RevPAR performance is expected to continue in Bahrain and Kuwait. HVS forecasts a RevPAR increase in KSA, UAE, Oman in the next five and ten years, attributable to increased occupancy and roomnights driven by new developments.

Conrad Indianapolis Launches Intelity Guest Service Platform to Great Success

The downtown, luxury Indianapolis hotel sees its numbers of engagements, clicks, requests, and orders soar.

Conrad Indianapolis Launches Intelity Guest Service Platform to Great Success

Intelity

Intelity, the leading integrated mobile and in-room technology provider for the global travel industry, has announced its full guest service platform is now live at the luxurious Conrad Indianapolis hotel.

The award-winning hotel, located just a three-minute covered walk from the downtown Indianapolis Convention Center, launched the Intelity Guest Service Platform, which includes in-room tablets, and Intelity’s staff-facing service management system along with Conrad Concierge through the Hilton Honors mobile app.

Intelity’s in-room tablets were introduced in June of this year, and the results have been incredible. The property’s goal was to provide a simple way for guests to interact with dining menus, facilitate ordering, and in turn, increase revenue while still maintaining staff performance and capacity. In just three months, digital dining orders increased by an astonishing 444 percent, a clear indication that guests are responding well to the tablets. In addition to the increased orders, the Conrad Indianapolis has also experienced an average in-room dining check increase of almost 15 percent.

“We wanted to make it more convenient for our guests to order in-room dining, make service requests, and otherwise communicate with our team using smart technology, which is why we introduced Intelity’s bedside tablet,” said Maria Alviz, Public Relations and Marketing Manager for the Conrad Indianapolis. “It’s important for us to be able to track our guests’ needs in order to better service them, and this tool lets us do just that. Through high usage, we are really learning about our guests.”

Alvis said that being able to track engagement, average check, top-selling meal items, clicks, orders, and requests provides insight into what guests need and are most focused on, which in turn helps management make more informed decisions about their menu and pricing.

In addition to placing in-room dining orders, guests use the customized Intelity in-room tablets to access hotel information and create service requests. “The fact that guests can see the menu and make an instant order, rather than having to pick up the phone,” she said, “makes the process easier and less stressful for our guests. It also lowers the risk of human error when taking in-room dining orders. Further, it streamlines all of our orders for our staff by 80 percent.”

“Our team makes sure guests are aware of the system and how to use it so that they are really taking advantage of its features. It’s proven to be convenient for them to make any type of request without having to flip through a paper directory. This has saved our property thousands of dollars of unnecessary expense in creating and reprinting our in-room collateral. With Intelity’s tablets, our room service menus and hotel information are never outdated.”

Not only has guest feedback been very positive, but the hotel’s staff and management also report being happy with the new system. “Management is pleased that we brought in Intelity,” said Alvis. “We look forward to incorporating this technology into all our rooms to continue improving our guests’ experiences.”

Intelity is merging with KEYPR, the enterprise provider of cloud-based guest experience and management solutions to hotels, casinos, and luxury residences. The new company, branded as Intelity, touches all points of the hotel guest and employee journey and is, by far, the largest and most deeply integrated, comprehensive hospitality platform on the global market.

About Intelity Solutions, Inc.

Intelity, is the creator of the most robust, reliable, fully-integrated platform available to the hospitality industry in the world today. With over 100 certified integrations to all major hotel management systems (PMS, POS, Ticketing, Spa, Room Controls, Mobile Key), Intelity's complete guest service platform delivers a friction-free guest experience, while building new operational efficiencies and driving additional revenue opportunities for property operators. In June 2018, Intelity, after celebrating its 10 year anniversary, announced its intent to merge with KEYPR, to become the leading hospitality technology provider in the guest experience space.

Intelity’s reach spans installations across six continents, including most major brands and many celebrated independent properties. Travel buyers more concerned by Brexit than cost-cutting

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Brexit has topped a poll of the biggest challenges facing travel buyers next year.

The annual survey by the Business Travel Show saw Brexit move from fourth place in the list of biggest concerns to top the poll, ahead of cost-cutting, budgets and airline pricing.

For the first time the show has also published a survey looking at the perception of challenges in the long-term, with Brexit also topping a poll looking ahead to the biggest challenges in 2022, ahead of rising costs, NDC (New Distribution Technology) and traveller safety.

However despite the concerns, a poll of 134 European buyers showed that nearly two thirds (65 per cent) of travel managers don’t have a post-Brexit plan in place.

Commenting on the findings, Business Travel Show group event director David Chapple said:

“Whether for or against the UK leaving the Europe Union, the last few months have been particularly frustrating and baffling for both sides leaving everyone possibly even more uncertain about any potential outcomes than they were a year or two ago.

“Because of that, I think our poll captures the Zeitgeist perfectly and it doesn’t surprise me that – right now – buyers are more concerned about Brexit than cost cutting.”

The Business Travel Show takes place at Olympia London from February 20-21, bringing together over 9,000 European travel industry professionals – to register visit businesstravelshow.com/register.

Domino’s Adds Virtual Dinner Bell to Mobile App

Posted by [email protected] on Comments comments (0)

Domino's Pizza has added a virtual dinner bell function to its mobile app.

"Let's face it, sometimes yelling at everyone that pizza is here just doesn't work," said Dennis Maloney, Domino's chief digital officer. "Domino's virtual dinner bell makes that job easier, as it rings right on everyone's phones, no matter where they are, so that everyone is ready to enjoy their piping-hot pizza together."

To take advantage of Domino's dinner bell feature, customers must have the most recent version of Domino's mobile app and a Pizza Profile. Once logged in, customers can invite friends and family to join their dinner bell group. When the group leader places an order, they can ring the bell to notify family and friends that the order has been placed. When Domino's Tracker says the order is out for delivery, it will automatically ring the bell again to remind everyone to get to the table ASAP.

More details on Domino's dinner bell can be found at www.dominos.com/dinnerbell.
